Phoebe Cary (September 4, 1824 – July 31, 1871) was an American poet, and the younger sister of poet Alice Cary (1820–1871). The sisters co-published poems in 1849, and then each went on to publish volumes of their own. The Cary Club was founded in 1878 and named after two 19th century poets and sisters, Alice and Phoebe Cary. The purpose of the club was the intellectual improvement of its members, which took the form of book reviews, discussions, and programs on historical subjects and current events. In 1898 and 1899 the members collaborated in writing a story entitled "Wrecked where we least expect: a story by the Cary Club."
